Education background
Dr. Michael Mei and Dr. Ella Ji both completed their PhD in Acupuncture at the renowned Beijing University of Chinese Medicine(BUCM) which is recognised by NZQA as part of the List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment. Prior to the pursuit of their PhD in Acupuncture, Michael and Ella both successfully obtained their medical licenses by completing their Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Clinical Medicine at the same university.
Their achievements incorporated both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Modern Western Medicine that included seven years of study and internship at Wangjing Hospital in Beijing, China.
Michael and Ella have effectively treated a vast range of conditions and health concerns utilising acupuncture care. These include but are not limited to
- musculoskeletal pain
- sports injuries
- neck/shoulder/back pain
- frozen shoulder
- tennis elbow/golf elbow
- carpal tunnel syndrome
- joint aches/stiffness

Apart from the above health concerns, Michael has special interests and is experienced in
- post-stroke rehabilitation
- peripheral facial paralysis
- herpes zoster(shingles)/postherpetic neuralgia(PHN)
- complex intractable musculoskeletal diseases
- knee joint dysfunction.
Michael has extensive knowledge of sports medicine and spent over a year in arthroscope department during his internship in Wangjing hospital, and participated in many arthroscope surgical procedures.
Apart from the above health concerns, Ella has special interests and is experienced in
- migraine
- pre-menstrual syndrome(PMS)
- dysmenorrhea (painful periods)
- insomnia
- anxiety, depression, mood disorders
Ella has done a great deal of research regarding depression for her Doctorate degree and has a lot of experience in treating these conditions.
Ella has also helped many people lose weight and regain their confidence and happiness.
