Effectiveness of acupuncture in women with PCOS undergoing IVF or ICSI

A systematic review was published on the British Medical Journal. The abstract of this article was included on PubMed.

The title of the article is “Effectiveness of acupuncture in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome undergoing in vitro fertilisation or intracytoplasmic sperm injection: a systematic review and meta-analysis.”

Four randomised controlled trials (RCTs) including 430 participants were selected. The participants were women with PCOS undergoing IVF or ICSI.

All trials compared acupuncture (manual acupuncture or electroacupuncture) against no treatment. Acupuncture significantly increased the linical pregnancy rate and ongoing pregnancy rate and decreased the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome ; however, there was no significant difference in the live birth rate. None of the RCTs reported on dverse events.
